Interviewer: Looking ahead, what do you believe are the most crucial steps that need to be taken to improve health testing, equity, and outcomes for LGBTQIA individuals?

Dr. Brandy Gunsolus: The most crucial step right now is to reverse much of the political agenda against the LGBTQIA communities. That in itself has created its own disparity that is way beyond disparities that were there even just five years ago.

We need to work to reverse those laws and regulations that have been put in place by, I'm going to say small-minded individuals with beliefs that they think trump science. And we have enough research in the LGBTQIA community to show that this is science, this is fact. These individuals need healthcare and creating laws and regulations that prevent their healthcare is despicable. If you are a member of the LGBTQIA community and you are being denied healthcare, find another provider. There are providers out there, find another provider. You might have to move to another state to get it, but find another provider. You have allies.
