A National Education Hub for Diagnostic Literacy
Diagnostic clarity, powered by human expertise
Mission
Our mission is to improve health outcomes for everyone by removing the barriers that arise when patients and families, care givers, or providers do not have equitable access to diagnostic testing expertise. We achieve this by providing the public with free access to educational materials and our online question answering service that provides direct responses from trusted medical professionals to help better understand any diagnostic testing results.
Purpose
Understanding your lab tests should never be confusing, costly, or out of reach. Diagnostic information is foundational to nearly every medical decision, yet millions of patients or their care teams lack the time, access, or support needed to interpret their results. Our nonprofit exists to close that gap by offering visitors expert-vetted publications and access to ask questions directly of qualified laboratory professionals. These experts can provide visitors with clear, compassionate, and accurate explanations of their diagnostic testing results to work together and supplement their existing doctors and care team.
Why This Matters
- AI cannot guarantee accuracy or accountability. Technology companies routinely disclaim responsibility for the information their systems generate. Patients deserve more than probabilistic answers when their health is at stake.
- Humans trust humans. People make better decisions when they can rely on a real professional: someone with a name, a credential, and an ethical obligation to do no harm.
- Lab results are often inaccessible. Time‑limited appointments, provider communication styles, and the absence of second‑opinion pathways disproportionately affect underserved communities.
- Diagnostic equity is essential to health equity. Equal access to accurate, timely interpretation of lab results is a prerequisite for fair and effective healthcare.
Our Commitment
- A track record of safety. Since 1999, more than 1.4 million questions have been answered without a single resulting lawsuit. Our mentorship program enables experts to participate within clearly defined rules and parameters that emphasize care, professionalism, and well-established boundaries. These guardrails ensure that every interaction is educational, ethical, and appropriately scoped.
- Human expertise, not artificial intelligence. Every explanation comes from a trained professional looking at your unique information, not a model predicting text from the most commonly available data.
- Free and accessible forever. Equity requires that everyone have access to tools such as these. That is why we offer it as a public benefit.
- Ethical, transparent, and community‑driven. Our volunteers participate because they believe in better outcomes for all patients.
