Kathryn Golab, DCLS, MLS(ASCP)CM, SH-CM

Dr. Kathryn Golab, DCLS, MLS(ASCP)CMSHCM, is the Clinical Specialist for Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis at Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Va. She has 8 years of hematology experience in a high complexity hematology laboratory that serviced a 750 bed hospital, which included a comprehensive cancer center. She focuses her clinical practice on the study of hematologic malignancies and frequently collaborates with hematology/oncology providers on improving laboratory test utilization for patients with newly diagnosed malignancies.

Kathryn is an active member of both the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, and the Association for Diagnostics in Laboratory medicine where she has held volunteer leadership positions at the state, regional, and national level. She also is an experienced lecturer in Hematology and Coagulation, having delivered numerous educational sessions at both the state and national level. Kathryn also is on the Menomonee Falls High School Healthcare Career Academy Board of Directors as a member at large.

In 2022, she was awarded the ASCP Board of Certification Lab Superstar Award Runner-up, is a 2021 ASCLS Voices under 40 awardee, a 2023 ASCP 40 under Fortee Honoree, a 2023 Distinguished Young Alumni awardee at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, a 2024 ASCP Choosing Wisely Champion and has multiple publications related to social media and laboratory administration.

Most recently, she became a contributor for the 7th edition of Rodak’s Hematology. When not promoting the laboratory profession, she enjoys hiking and reading books in her free time.
