About
Ryan Tom was born and raised in Jackson, New Jersey, where he graduated from Jackson Memorial High School. During his formative years, he was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, karate, and the Civil Air Patrol—earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, a reflection of his commitment to leadership, discipline, and community service.
Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in General Science from Penn State University and his Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) from Kean University. Following graduation, he obtained his MLS certification and New York State licensure, further strengthening his professional foundation. He went on to complete a Master of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science at Rutgers University, where he is currently pursuing his Doctor of Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS) degree, with an anticipated graduation in 2026.
Throughout his doctoral studies, Ryan has been actively involved in several leading professional organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), and the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB). He previously served as Chair of the ASCLS Diversity Advocacy Council, participates in the ASM Fellowship Mentorship Program, and contributes to multiple AABB subcommittees.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Ryan enjoys staying active through jogging and basketball, engaging in strategic board games such as chess and Pandemic, and volunteering through professional and community organizations. He is passionate about advancing the laboratory profession through education, advocacy, and service.
